Maximising Performance and Potential of Individuals and Teams in Sport

As a former athlete and national hockey representative, our resident Performance Psychologist Mindy Simpson draws on personal experience and her professional psychology qualifications to assist sports people operating in a high performance environment.

Striking a balance between enjoyment, well-being and elite sport is a constant challenge and one Mindy strives to address with athletes using psychological theory and practical application.  Using a holistic approach, Mindy develops a positive rapport to determine the best method for each individual, assisting her clients in understanding the potential barriers to their success and helping them overcome any obstacles to be the best they can be in sport and in life.

"Leaders are made, they are not born. They are made by hard effort, which is the price which all of us must pay to achieve any goal that is worthwhile." Vince Lombardi, Green Bay Packers

Successful teams have strong leaders, and the importance of strong leaders in sporting teams cannot be underestimated.  A leader's role is to influence the behaviours of teammates in order to achieve the team's goals.  This includes setting the standards, motivating the team, creating a positive culture, and being a role model for younger players.

iThrive Consulting supports current and aspiring leaders (athletes, coaches and staff) to identify the most appropriate leadership skills needed to influence others, understand their own leadership style and how different styles can be used in certain situations.  We help leaders create individual development plans focused on their own individual strengths as a leader.

“Good teams become great ones when the members trust each other enough to surrender the Me for the We.” Phil Jackson, Ex Head Coach LA Lakers and Chicago Bulls

One of the greatest challenges in elite sport is building cohesive, highly skilled and functioning teams with a diverse group of athletes.  High performing teams are more successful in every area.  Within this environment team members invest more effort, enjoy greater player satisfaction, are more resilient and there is greater belief in a team member’s own abilities.  iThrive works with teams, leaders and coaches to build a positive culture and team environment that will enhance your potential for success.
